UW Engineering Center

Education | Seattle, WA

The University of Washington’s Engineering Research Center (ERC) at Russell Hall was designed by ZGF Architects to be the public face of the research program.

They use this space to promote new ideas and synergistic relationships with both the public and private sectors.

Gateway Construction Services was chosen for this project for two reasons: we had the most experience working in the building and, more importantly, were able to come up with an aggressive schedule that gave ERC the conference areas early. This was critical for a presentation to a committee funding a large grant.

The excising space was roughly 5,400 square-feet and in shell condition. The tenant improvements included radius walls and circular ceiling treatments. They defined the different spaces with large-barn-door partitions allowing for flexible meeting needs. The lighting package and finishes are state of the art and include casework screens and panels milled to look like circuit boards. The details came together to create a statement of cutting-edge ingenuity.
